Would you like satellite TV but don't want a long contract or expensive subscription, Freesat could be the digital TV package for you.

What is Freesat?
Freesat is a free digital TV service that comes to you via satellite. The BBC and ITV have launched a service together, offering around 150 digital TV and radio channels, including some programmes in high definition. Freesat includes channels like BBC One and BBC News, ITV HD, BBC HD, movie channels and a wide range of other channels.

How can I get Freesat?
We can help to get Freesat you need the right equipment. You need either a Freesat digital box or a television that has Freesat receiver installed inside it an “iDTV”. Almost all homes in the UK can receive Freesat.

How much does Freesat cost?
The only cost associated with Freesat is in getting set up - there are no ongoing subscriptions or contracts.
A basic Freesat digital box starts from around £80. Freesat boxes that allow you to watch in high definition start from around £140 - and you would need an high definition TV. You can also buy Freesat HD digital recorders, or use a high definition television set that has Freesat high definition already installed. The cost of the satellite dish and installation starts from around £195.

Can I have Freesat as well as my existing digital TV service?
The two can run at the same time, in fact, if you have a working satellite dish, you may be able to use it to receive Freesat as well.

Who is Freesat?

Freesat is a joint venture between the BBC and ITV. The service provides a number of TV and radio channels that you can get without subscription

Separate from Sky's satellite TV offering, Freesat launched on the 6th May 2008, and offers over 130 TV channels.

As well as a box, you'll need to have a satellite dish pointing in the general direction of the Astra satellite. Some High Definition content will be available, including the BBC and ITV HD service.

What's on Freesat

Around 130 channels of TV and 30 radio stations, with no subscription. Channels include Channel 4, E4, More 4, Five, ITV2, ITV3, BBC3, BBC News, CBBC and CiTV.

Other channels include Film 4, True Movies, Movies4Men, Euronews, Men & Motors, Wedding TV, Chart Show TV and Al-Jazeera.

Freesat is also offering HD content. At launch, it was only the BBC HD service, but ITV's HD service launched in June 2008 (via the red button). Irritatingly, ITV's HD content won't be available to Sky Digital's almost half-a-million HD customers, and Channel 4 HD isn't currently available to Freesat customers.

This Service is free once you’ve purchased the freesat receiver and had it installed with a small satellite dish that’s it freesat viewing is yours with no ongoing monthly payments.

Freesat receivers also come with a Freesat + option so you can record one channel whilst viewing another.
